- 11 large telera or bolillo roll
- 21 large prepared tamal, unwrapped
- 33 tablespoons salsa verde or salsa roja
- 42 tablespoons refried beans
- 51 tablespoon Mexican crema
- 6Pickled jalapeños and avocado for serving

Slice the roll in half and toast the cut sides on a hot griddle or skillet for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.

Spread refried beans on the bottom half of the toasted roll.

Place the whole, unwrapped tamal on top of the beans — the tamal acts as the filling in its entirety. Spoon salsa generously over the tamal.

Top with crema, sliced avocado, and pickled jalapeños. Close the sandwich and press gently. This is guajolota, Mexico City's iconic street breakfast sandwich — carb-on-carb and unapologetically hearty.
